It is
common to have disagreement or little conflicts among in-laws. If kids
are involved, the greater the possibility of misunderstandings. Most of
the times, both parties have good intention, but commonly misinterpreted
one another. Below are some tips that you can consider so that going on
a vacation with your in-laws will be smooth and less stressful for both
of you.
Have a work arrangement. Tasks should be
designated to the members of the family who are part of the vacation;
however, refrain from giving the grandparents a specific duty. Let your
in-laws do what they prefer doing. Never demand them for doing
something.
Just be yourself. Do not think that your
in-laws are there to observe and wait for you to commit a mistake. Do
not be afraid to show the real you and to react on situations based on
your real perception.
Take charge of the accommodation.
If possible, be the one to make the arrangements in a hotel. By this,
you can have the options to choose your own preferred room and you will
still have your privacy though they might often drop to your room.
Entrust
the kids to them. Your in-laws might have another way of dealing and
disciplining the kids which is totally different from yours. To avoid
conflicts, allow them to be with the kids. Learn to accept the fact
that your kids can also survive without you and they may also enjoy and
appreciate the company of their grandparents.
Don't expect
and assume. Avoid setting your own standard and rules during the
vacation. Expect that anything can happen and be ready to face any
situation that you might be facing.
Look forward to
another vacation. After your trip, plan another one which is without
in-laws this time. It will be something to ponder and to anticipate on
the next couple of days.
